Fiberglass floor grating is an excellent alternative to metal where rust, corrosion, or chemical attack are constant problems. With proper resin selection, fiberglass grating is able to perform well in most corrosive environments at an attractive cost. For fiberglass grating service recommendations, please see the the Fiberglass Chemical Corrosion Guide included in this website. More specific details, chemical service applications can be found at "Links" to the resin manufacturers' websites, or call and let us help you with your specific application at 770-632-7112.
Fiberglass composite grates have been produced since the early 1960's with the molded fiberglass grating as the earliest variety. The molded grating is produced in an open mold as a one piece panel with woven continuous fiberglass strand throughout the grating panel for optimum corrosion resistance, maximum load carrying ability, and complete panel integrity. The molded grating product is a composite for maximum chemical resistance.
Pultruded composite fiberglass floor grating was developed much later and has survived numerous changes in composite structure and construction of the multiple piece grating pinning system that holds the bearing bars in place and the in tact. Penetrations cut into the panels for piping, duct, and equipment configurations must have supports continuously supporting the ends of each grating bearing bar. This is normally not needed with the molded fiberglass grating. The pultruded fiberglass grating is a high glass composite for maximum load carrying and longer spans, but is not as resinous for corrosion resistance.
Century Composites is a leading supplier of molded fiberglass grating for the North American market with warehousing in the Southeastern US, the West Coast of the US, and a number of stocking distributors to more locally serve your needs. The CenturionTM brand of molded fiberglass grating is extremely consistent from batch to batch. Our most common non-slip surface of our fiberglass grating is an embedded grit surface for better slip control and improved wear resistance.
The gritted surface of the CenturionTM fiberglass grating is an embedded aluminum oxide grit surface. The grit is embedded into the wet laminate 1/8" to 1/4" deep. The embedded grit surface keeps the reinforcing fiberglass within 1/4" of the surface for maximum strength and durability of the grating. The grit depth is also important in limiting wear and increasing the life of the slip resistant surface as compared to products with grit simply glued on to the surface of the fiberglass grating bars.
Century Composites started manufacturing fiberglass grating in 1992. Please view our company's "History" page to see the rapid growth and scope of the company's experience in production of both fiberglass and thermoplastic products and components.
